Faces of ghosts
In books and pictures and tones,
Stare smiling back,
Their souls are black.
Wrinkles show what they know,
All the smiles and frowns they’ve shown.
A detailed map, time can’t be turned back
A child with vision suddenly appears,
Dreams of the future with hope, faith and fear.
He wakes up to find that he’s not alone.
First and last with reason, a mind all his own.
On his own.
All his own.
All his own, all his own.
Middle aged man finds his meaning in life.
It lies not with his sisters, daughters or wife.
Wrapped up in a woman he barely knows.
Distanced from shame, he cries, he is alone.
He’s alone, he’s alone, he’s alone.
A child with vision suddenly disappears.
A face in the mirror that’s aged with the years.
He lays down and dies while no one’s around.
He swallowed his pride, a whimper his last sound.
